Project Overview

Abacus Lighting – HQ Sutton-in-Ashfield, UK, a global leader in high‑performance lighting and mast solutions, today announced the acquisition of Precision Sports Lighting (PSL), an Australia‑based specialist in advanced sports lighting technologies.

Lord’s Cricket Ground decided to upgrade their original floodlights to meet the evolving demands of modern broadcasting and ensure optimal visibility for both players and spectators during day-night matches. Building on our long-standing partnership with Lord’s Cricket Ground, Abacus were entrusted with the task of upgrading the original lighting system by retrofitting our state-of-the-art Challenger Mako floodlights onto the existing telescopic masts.

Project Overview

Ingles FC is a Leicestershire-based football club founded in 1972. Competing in the Midland Football League, they are dedicated to developing local talent and promoting grassroots football.

Recently, Ingles FC required a new lighting system to enhance their facilities. The club needed a solution that would improve visibility for players and spectators while minimising light pollution.

Emley FC’s old lighting system had become outdated, with issues surfacing more frequently over time. These challenges were escalating to the point where maintaining the system was no longer economically viable.

To continue providing a high-quality experience for both players and supporters, Emley AFC required a modern, efficient lighting solution that would not only enhance the quality of light on the pitch but also help reduce energy costs.

Brocton FC is a football club originating in the village of Brocton, near Stafford, England. Founded in 1937 and nicknamed “The Badgers,” the club has a proud history deeply rooted in the local community. Initially competing in amateur leagues, Brocton gradually progressed up the football pyramid, demonstrating consistent growth and development both on and off the pitch.

Aberaeron RFC is a Welsh rugby union club based in Aberaeron, a picturesque coastal town in Ceredigion, Wales. The club faced a significant challenge with their aging lighting system. The existing floodlights, crucial for evening training sessions and matches, had deteriorated over the years, struggling to provide adequate illumination.

In a significant development for the world of sports and outdoor event illumination, Abacus Lighting has successfully completed a large-scale project upgrading the existing metal halide floodlighting system at the Kensington Oval Cricket Ground, Barbados, to state-of-the-art LED technology in the form of our Challenger Mako floodlight.

Alive Lynnsport boasts a top-notch athletics track, serving as a hub for runners, athletes, and fitness enthusiasts. However, the existing floodlighting system was due for an upgrade to enhance performance and efficiency.

Crowle Colts FC is a grassroots football club located in Crowle, Lincolnshire, UK. Through a successful grant, Crowle Colts FC initiated the installation of a state-of-the-art floodlighting system, aiming to elevate their playing experience and community engagement.

In a significant development for the world of sports and outdoor event illumination, Abacus Lighting has successfully secured a large-scale project aimed at upgrading the existing metal halide floodlighting system at Lord’s Cricket Ground, to state-of-the-art LED technology in the form of our Challenger Mako floodlight.

Ben Rhydding Hockey Club already had an existing floodlighting system in place. However they were after an LED alternative to ensure operational and maintenance costs were kept to a minimum, and reducing environmental impact.

Trinity School & Performing Arts is a renowned institution dedicated to providing a comprehensive education. The college already had an existing floodlighting system in place on their sports pitch, However, they were after an LED alternative to ensure maximum efficiency and performance.

Toynbee School had concerns regarding the short and long-term costs associated with their existing floodlights, as well as the visibility of their sports pitch. The school’s leadership recognised the need for a more sustainable and cost-effective solution, which led them to explore the adoption of LED lighting technology.

Kingdown School’s hockey pitch already had an existing floodlighting system in place manufactured and installed by Abacus, However, they were after an LED alternative to reduce operational costs/maintenance fees and minimise any environmental impact.

Callywith College is renowned for its state-of-the-art facilities, modern learning environments, and dedicated staff who provide high-quality education and support to students. The college already had an existing floodlighting system in place, However, they were after an LED alternative to ensure maximum efficiency and performance.

With a rich history of community engagement, Wincanton Tennis Club provides a welcoming environment for players of all ages and abilities.The club already had an existing floodlighting system in place, However, they were after an LED alternative to enhance the playing experience, reduce operational costs and minimise any environmental impact.

Oathall Community College boasts state-of-the-art sports facilities, including a well-maintained sports field and courts for various activities. The college already had an existing floodlighting system in place, However, they were after an LED alternative to ensure maximum efficiency and performance.

Floodlighting at Burton Hockey Club is an integral part of their infrastructure, enabling training and matches to take place even during the darker hours. The club already had an existing floodlighting system in place, manufactured and installed by Abacus in 2015. However, they were after an LED alternative.

Abacus Lighting Shines Bright at Edgbaston for The Ashes First Test Match!

After successfully raising funds needed via crowdfunding, Abacus Lighting was invited to survey the pitch and provide recommendations on achieving desired light levels. Taking on board an understanding of the club’s desire to increase the floodlit areas to enable the club to rotate use, protect the grass surface and prevent cancellations of games.

Abacus Lighting forged a working relationship with the State of Jersey several years ago and we were delighted to be approached to work with them on this new project for their Sports Centre and a future project with a local school.

The club already had an existing lighting system provided by Abacus, which was installed in 2004. However, the advantages of LED lighting over traditional lighting appealed to the club, and Abacus were on hand to achieve their desired solution.

Haverfordwest County AFC approached Abacus Lighting to upgrade their lighting systems to enhance the sustainability of its facilities.

Newark Sports Hub is a sports village providing state-of-the-art facilities; including a 3G football pitch, athletics track, cycle track, tennis courts and multi-use games area. Planning for the new development began in 2017 and by 2018, building work commenced on the multi-million pound development. A sports floodlighting system was to be included in the development to facilitate busy evening schedules and events.

Streetly Lawn Tennis Club is recognised as one of the premier tennis clubs in the Midlands, offering both first class and social facilities. With an existing metal halide lighting system across nine tennis courts, the club wanted to convert to LED. In order to spread the cost, a single court installation would be completed first.
